DISH goes to Hollywood to take our show on the road!

Lauren, Denise & Doug (L-R) looking snappy in Hollywood

OK, not exactly, but we did go to downtown LA in June for the Fifth Annual Housing Institute “Partnerships in Permanent Supportive Housing” put on by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. DISH was honored to be invited to present a workshop on providing property management services in Supportive Housing. DISHers Denise Riggins, GM of the Windsor Hotel, Lauren Hall and Doug Gary, Co-Directors, took a road trip to LA and conducted an informative workshop focused on balancing the needs of our tenants with the realities of property management. We had an interesting discussion on how to modify practices and policies to ensure that the goal of housing retention is forefront in the actions of the property management company. Participants were from a variety of organizations in Los Angeles County, and were eager to share their own successes and challenges in this work.

Speaking of Hollywood-like stories, we also just presented at INVADER SF 2012 – a daylong symposium hosted by the Sleep Tight Academy about taking the universe back from possible bed bug invasions. DISH General Managers Tony Baldwin and Jack Maclean along with Director Doug Gary presented on the financial impact of bed bugs. We covered the cost of treatment as well as the great investments to be made upfront to “defend” apartment units and buildings from infestations.

Tony, Jack & Doug (L-R) prep their INVADER presentation.

Facilities Manager Don Lewis also conducted a session on how facilities staff can apply preventative measures to help stop infestations before they get out of control. This is a hot topic in SF and around the country, and DISH is honored to be invited to participate in upcoming INVADER symposia in other cities over the coming months. If you are interested in any of DISH’s training or consulting services, please get in touch with us to see if we can help.
